Pin Lean Lau is an academic legal researcher and Associate Professor of Biomedical Law, writer & speaker, lawyer and bioethicist. Raised in the tropical beauty of Malaysia and Thailand, with a historical lineage that traces back to 1500s Malacca, Pin Lean has always been an independent free spirit and citizen of the world, drawn to humanity, justice, equality, human rights and law and technologies. She finds beauty in the weird, quirky and occasionally, grotesque. In her free time, she reads extensively, enjoying contemporary non-fiction, and subversive literary & feminist fiction, writes poetry and music that explores themes of identity, othering & belonging, and social justice; and produces electronica experimental music from her home studio. Her work and passion has led her to opportunities in Hungary, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and England, living for short periods of time in southern Thailand and southern Laos. Pin Lean is passionate advocate for the responsible use of technology to improve the lives of people around the world. She is an experienced legal consultant and a seasoned speaker who can tailor her presentations to a variety of audiences, from technical experts to lay people.
